Sanjeevi hills form one of the enticing group of hillocks in Tamil Nadu that has an air of tranquillity about it. It is located at Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu that has a fair share of historical and religious significance attached to it.
The serene Sanjeevi hills have been mentioned many times in the Indian epic Ramayana and are considered sacred among the Hindus. As per the myth, the lofty Sanjeevi hills were once part of the Dronagiri range of the Himalayas. In the Ramayana, Lord Lakshmana was injured badly during the war against the demon king Ravana. Lord Hanuman was then instructed by Lord Rama to bring the Sanjeevi mountain, which was full of medicinal herbs, to cure Lakshmana’s illness. It is thus considered a holy mountain that contains many medicinal herbs.
Besides the religious significance, the Sanjeevi hills are also characterised by dense forests, lush vegetation and peaceful environment.
